Recently (well its yesterday actually), I did a post on the new Open Office 3.0.

One of the functions that thrills me with the new Open Office 3.0 is definitely the PDF Importer.

Finally a freeware that allows you to edit your PDF file (well it’s a long wait really ).

Unfortunately this is NOT part of the installation files but it is an extension or add-on to the Open Office 3.0 suite. Do note this extension does not work with earlier versions of Open Office.

It is one of the hottest downloads of the moment; so HOT that it has already reach 254749 downloads at the moment and 58382 downloads from this week already.

What’s more users from various platforms are able to enjoy this breakthrough function. Windows, Mac OSX, Solaris and even Linux (x32 and x64) users can use this powerful tool on their already FREE Open Office 3.0.

The alternative office suite for PCs (laptops included), OpenOffice.org, has now released version 3.0 of its office suite.

There are many new features in this new suite and for the first time ever ” a PDF importer”.

Which means you can import you pdf files …. edit them up and save as a document, spreadsheet, presentation or draw file (something Microsoft haven’t come out with ).

Though Microsoft has been working with third party ….. Able2Extract on this function to be in the future releases of Microsoft Office suites, Sun Microsystems has leapfrog a step further with this release.

If you are working on a Microsoft Office 2003 or earlier suite on your laptop and you wanted to perform operations like opening, editing and saving your documents, spreadsheets and presentations with the file formats of Office 2007 …… now you can.

The tip is to download and install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack.

With this tool, you can retain the current Microsoft Office suite that you are using plus the ability to perform your works on the Microsoft Office 2007 based files.

How do you if it is a Microsoft Office 2007 format?

Simple ….. anything that ends with an “x” alphabet like (.docx for words), (.xlsx for excel) and (.pptx for powerpoint) are the xml based and the new Microsoft Office 2007 file formats.

It would great if you have the full featured Office 2007 suite as you can enjoy a feature-rich product with a lot of great enhancements.

The popular KDE based office software, K-Office, is currently under development (alpha).

Though sources believed that it make sometime, my guts is telling it may be any sooner.

I’ve tried K-Office when I’m running Vector linux on my old Twinhead notebook and found it very impressive indeed.
