Change The Looks Of Your Theme Safely
I’m attending my first ever Microsoft Certification (MCITP -Windows Server 2008 Server Administration) course right and during the break time i think why not I do another post for you guys.
Ever since Windows XP Service Pack 3 is released, changes made to Windows theme function has been more stricter than ever.
Unlike what it used to be, just by renaming and overwriting uxtheme.dll can solved the problem in less than a minute …. it doesn’t seems that way …. well not until now.
There are 2 ways actually to change the theme of your Windows and apply third party ones to your desktop.
I’ll show how how to do it and where to get fantastic themes as well for free as what you see below.
As I said earlier, there are 2 ways - one using a patcher system and the other using the replacer system.
The Patcher Sytem
If you are using Windows Vista you can use the UXtheme patcher for Windows Vista to patch your theme.
For XP users => use this link to download the UXtheme patcher.
What the downloads at the above did are patching and overwriting the uxtheme.dll automatically. This method is especially recommended for begineers who might not be familiar with system files and dll replacements.
The Replacer Sytem
For those who prefer doing it the hard way (but not actually difficult), you need to download the replacer software first. Download the stable version of the software and extract it to your desktop.
Next download the “patched” uxtheme.dll here. Extract the dll to your desktop.
- Launch the replacer software. A command prompt will popped out.
- Now, click on “My Computer” and navigate to C:\Windows\System 32 and locate the filename uxtheme.dll to the command prompt window.
- Now , after you have done that , it will prompt you to drag the patched uxtheme.dll. Simply drag the file (uxtheme.dll) that is located on your desktop to the command prompt window. This new uxtheme.dll will overwrite the previous one safely.
After all of that is done you can get new themes at TSS.2000.nl website and extract the cab files to your Resources folder (located at c:\Windows\Resources\Themes) where your themes are located.
