Not too long ago, I’ve covered a post on using recovery console to repair your Win XP boot menus.

Note :- That post applied to the normal boot issues where the Windows Loading screen keeps on loading .. and loading …. and ….loading …. and …..loading …. :P

What I’ve encountered recently is far more challenging than that …

I’m able to pass through the loading menu but upon entering Windows, I was prompted “System error : Lsass.exe”. The system restarted upon me pressing the “OK” button ….. and it repeated itself ever since.

What do I do?

One thing I’ve discovered using the automatically repair for Windows XP function from the CD would not solved this problem, so I have to turn to a more backward approach : The Recovery Console again :P .

Another day … another recovery console discovery.

Note the below mentioned steps applied to boot issues that has a prompt “System Error : Lsass.exe” only.

Upon restarting your setup disk, choose the Repair using Recovery Console option.

Choose the installation you want to repair.

  • If it is C:Windows, then type the number 1 and press enter.
  • Next type in your administrator password. Leave it blank and press enter if there ain’t any.
  • Type in the following lines below and press enter at every line
    • md tmp
    • copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak
    • copy c:\windows\system32\config\software c:\windows\tmp\software.bak
    • copy c:\windows\system32\config\sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak
    • copy c:\windows\system32\config\security c:\windows\tmp\security.bak
    • copy c:\windows\system32\config\default c:\windows\tmp\default.bak
    • delete c:\windows\system32\config\system
    • delete c:\windows\system32\config\software
    • delete c:\windows\system32\config\sam
    • delete c:\windows\system32\config\security
    • delete c:\windows\system32\config\default
    • copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config\system
    • copy c:\windows\repair\software c:windows\system32\config\software
    • copy c:\windows\repair\sam c:\windows\system32\config\sam
    • copy c:\windows\repair\security c:\windows\system32\config\security
    • copy c:\windows\repair\default c:\windows\system32\config\default

After you have all of these lines, type exit to quit the Recovery Console.

This is a three part series and I will be continuing this remedy in next 2 posts.

Note this remedy method is lengthy , if you’re able to acess and transfer your files via Knoppix Linux (do it) …
Watch for my next 2 posts of this series….
