Bye Bye Vista, Hello XP?

Well most of you will think that I will be saying hello Windows 7, hmm …. not really…vis

The past 2 days has been quite horrifying for me. I decided to finally bow out of Windows Vista and welcome back Windows XP on my Lenovo Y300 laptop.

Well it’s an unthinkable thought but I finally gave up on Vista due to the following reasons.

Here’s  my take on Vista.

  1. The constant prompts like allowing file operation to proceed and so on is damn annoying and performance is by far slagging even thought I’ve upgraded my RAM to 3GB.
  2. It took me 5 minutes to transfer 1 GB of data from my Local D drive to my external 1TB Western Digital Hard drive in XP but in Vista it tooks me over 45 minutes!
  3. There are a couple of sites that hangs upon browsing…. which finally lead me to this downgrading process.

Before you perform any downgrading there are a couple of things you MUST take note.

Things to take note before downgrading:-

  1. Be sure, there are hardware drivers that support XP. Certain OEM manufacturers hadtailor made their laptops based on Windows Vista only. I’ve experienced a couple of them and most notably is the DELL M1300 series though few forumers have claimed that they successfully able to install XP on these laptops.
  2. Windows Vista downgrade is available to Windows Vista Business and Ultimate editions only. If you are using Windows Home Basic or Home Premium …. you need to purchase a seperate license in order to downgrade it Windows XP Home or Professional.
  3. Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2) does not support SATA hard drives install. You need Windows XP Service Pack 3 in order to have the installation progress smoothly. Alternatively you can use n-Lite and customized your own Win XP CD.

Windows Vista is actually a good operating system, in terms of security, but it’s lagging performance and compatability issues is somewhat in question.

You can also have an option to use a USB thumbdrive to install your operating system. That will in another post …… coming soon.
