My Laptop Linux Experience (Part 1)
Filed Under (Notebook Reviews) by Mohd Fauzi A Rahman on 13-02-2008
I´ve been busy trying out the Linux platform and installing it on my 4 year old Twinhead Efio notebook computer.
The distro i´ve tested is of course currently ranked number 1 on Distrowatch - PCLinuxOS.
I’ll layout the reasons as to why I choosing PCLinuxOS to the other popular distros like Ubuntu, OpenSuse, Mepis and others.

As you can see from the above picture, this is my screenshot of Twinhead laptop. It is clean and neatly interface and for this post I writing right now is currently NOT running on Windows!
As this seems to be Part 1 of my experience, I would share some details on why I did this ¨crazy¨ migration …… (My friends labeled me that after I did this experiment).
Reasons to my Linux transfer :-
- Curiosity:- The desire is top-notch guys and very uncontrollable.
- Windows ain´t exciting to me anymore:- After using all the versions of Microsoft Windows, it appears to me that security and vulnerability is a major concern to me … especially when you are running old hardware and hard disk space can be ultra limited after installing all the necessary anti-virus and spyware programs….sucks.
- The Open Source Thinking:- Who says good things aren´t meant to be free.
- Hardware:- With old hardware and you want it to run in lightning speed with the latest operating systems … well Windows can’t help me do that.
Hey don’t get me wrong …. I’m not totally abandoning Windows.
In fact my Lenovo notebook (Windows Vista) and my DIY desktop (Windows Xp) are still in the Microsoft based platform. There are used for my other applications where Linux platform is not supported.
Stay tuned for Part 2 of my post as I’ll be sharing for infos on my Linux experience.
