Help, Laptop Blank Screen!
My close friend recently had a panic attack on his beloved Lenovo notebook computer.
What type of attack?
I can tell you it is not as bad as a heart attack but it could be if you desperately need to use your notebook at that time.
What happen is that he had a blank screen upon boot up. When he got a blank screen and a lot of noise coming out of his CPU, as the same as any users, he pressed the panic button!
When a notebook computer hits a blank screen, there could a lot of causes but notably not a software issue.
Why not software?
My diagnostics is this:- You can still enter the BIOS software of your notebook computer if it is only the software related issue.
When a notebook hits blank screen, 90% of the chances are relation with the hardware.
It could be your motherboard, the LCD, the optical drive or others.
As for my friend’s situation, it is the RAM.
I was puzzled at first, but I decided to ask to try this remedy.
Since he got 2 slots of memory sticks attached, I’ve asked him to remove one of the sticks and run the notebook on one RAM stick.
The first one, a 1GB Kingston RAM DDR-533 shows no difference.
When he inserted the second RAM, the default 512mB DDR-3 by Lenovo, the boot-up process appears normally but a little slower though.
This shows that his Kingston 1GB RAM is faulty.
I’m not blaming Kingston for this but electronics products spoil quite easily these days.
Well, there’s a tip for you if you faced such encounter.
Till my next post ……… see ya…

Wow! I hope I will never experience such a thing. But do you think some top laptops also experience such a problem some times? Great post!
