Help! My PC Screwed Me
Filed Under (Notebook BackUp) by Mohd Fauzi A Rahman on 20-09-2007
Ever get that feeling when you have so much data and suddenly one day your desktop pc or notebook computer fails to respond.
It sucks …… down on upside (reminds me of the last Soundgarden album).
Well now, we have the luxury of Knoppix Live, a linux distribution which can be a saviour to your problem.
Next question one will ask, ” I don’t have any experience in Linux, how to do?”
I can tell you some pointers here.
-
One - Knoppix Linux is a “Live” Distro (distribution in short)
You can run this operating system without even installing it! Run it as a bootable CD (make sure you set your Bios to 1st Boot Device : Cd-Rom)
- Two - Follow the steps by steps instruction
Remember in linux “Click Return” means “Click the Enter key“, you are able to proceed to the Knoppix window.
- Three - Standby a portable device (external hard disk) is recommended.
This is to make sure that the files are transferred at another area. You can use d: drive of your windows system to backup (provided there’s enough space).
- Four - Once all the 3 process is completed, reformat your c:drive (where your system files is)
From the steps above, I personally know when the word “reformat” is mentioned …… it was “Duh, here we go again” and a lot of people would rather stay away from it.
I believe this process should only be done if your system files are no-where to be rescued. “System Restore” is always the first action.
Then if restoration fails, these steps will help you save your precious data. From my experience, data is the most valuable thing of all.
