Clear Up Google Chrome
As you know Google Chrome has been around for a while and to tell you frankly it is one of my favorite browsers on my laptop to date.![]()
There are a couple like Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, Opera and many others but what I really like about Google Chrome is the speed.
However there are certain features in Google Chrome that is not up to my preference like the menu and clearing of private data.
Although there is a button from settings icon that says “Clear browsing data”, it does not actually cleared all the data cleanly …. hmmm …..
Firefox Speed Tips
Hi everyone, welcome to the 1st post of 2009 from Laptop Info Today.
I’ve been busy with my studies and quite frankly, I’m stealing my time right to blog to you guys
.
Anyway this post is something I want to do for quite a while a what better to start off with the first post on 2009.
Well, Firefox is extremely fast and furious if you were to compare with IE7 (IE8 beta 2 is even worse
). But if you want to make it even faster you can try these tips and see for yourself whether it works for you.
Let’s go though the steps:-
- Open up your browser and type about:config on the address
- Look out for “network.http.pipelining” and “network.http.proxy.pipelining”.
- Change both default values from FALSE to TRUE.
- Next right click at anywhere from the browser and click “Create New” > “Integer”.
- Type nglayout.initialpaint.delay as the name.
- Insert 0 (that is zero is numeric) as the default value.
- Restart Firefox.
What the steps actually does are :-
- It helps to load streaming videos faster
- No lag in online games
- Increase the speed of browsing and downloading
Laptop Dojo : Troubleshoot Windows XP Update Issues
It is another Tuesday again and asyou all know it is Microsoft Windows Update day.
By default, Mirosoft Windows will send update patches to all its users (be it an operating systems patch, office patch or service packs) on Tuesdays - most being the second Tuesday of each month.
I have always learn a lot of my IT stuffs and skills from TechReublic which is a good source for some technical details be it in Linux, Windows or Mac.
Today, i’ll be bringing a series of Laptop Dojo - the first on how to:
Stop Windows XP from nagging you about updates you’ve already completed or don’t want.
It is a good tutorial and I think it will work for you and your Windows XP laptop.
Another Windows XP Recovery Console Tip (Part 3)
I would like to end the final part of this series (Part 1 & Part 2 was covered some 2 weeks ago) which is quite overdue.
Anyway without further blabbering, let’s begin:-
In this part, you will need to delete the existing registry files and replacing it with the System Restore Registry files at the location C:\Windows\System32\Config folder.
To begin start the Recovery Console environment.
At the command promt type the following lines and press the enter key after each line.
- del c:\windows\system32\config\sam
- del c:\windows\system32\config\software
- del c:\windows\system32\config\default
- del c:\windows\system32\config\system
- copy c:\windows\tmp\software c:\windows\system32\config\software
- copy c:\windows\tmp\system c:\windows\system32\config\system
- copy c:\windows\tmp\sam c:\windows\system32\config\sam
- copy c:\windows\tmp\security c:\windows\system32\config\security
- copy c:\windows\tmp\default c:\windows\system32\config\default
Then type exit to quit the Recovery Console.
Once all is done, proceed to your normal Windows environment and click START >> All Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> System Restore.
Select Restore to a previous Restore Point to finalise the restoration .
Laptop Info Today Ultra Fast Wordpress Upgrade
I’ve just upgraded my blog, which is on the wordpress platform, to version 2.6.3.
When it comes to self-hosted blogs on wordpress platform, the normal time taken for and upgrade is about 5 minutes which is still quite a long time for me personally
.
Being in the wordpress version 2.6.2, I am trying to find upgrading methods in less than a minute !
Unrealistic target from a techie guy, you might but it is actually not.
I’ve upgraded 2 blogs (this one and IzzyRocks.net in less than a minute ! ).
How do I do it?
Let’s begin.
You need 2 files to be downloaded to your computer first.
Once you have downloaded both files, open up your ftp program (in this case I use Filezilla client).
Upload the 2 files to your wp-includes directory. You will be prompted whether you wanted to override the existing files. Click OK to override.
Once both files have been uploaded, refresh your wordpress dashboard and you have successfully perform your wordpress upgrade.
Passport Photo From Your Laptop
Hi there it’s me again and recently I was renewing my son’s passport and guess what I did all with the comfort of my laptop.
You will, of course, need a digital camera, photo printer, your laptop and an internet connection .
Internet Connection? You might puzzled I supposed.
Yeah …. let’s get started.
First , you need to take your passport photo from your own digital camera. Depends on country regulations, you might a white or colored background of your country’s choice. Read up your official immmigration rules and regulations on passport photo.
Need once you snap that photo …. upload it to your laptop (resize it) and proceed to epassportphoto.com .
This site supports passport taking for numerous countries .
Click on the “Get My Free Passport Photos” link to get started. (Remember to choose of your country of origin before proceeding further). After that it is just simply following the passport making wizard.
Save the photo as a jpeg file and print it on your photo printer ……
You’re done …. it is simple as that.
Try it out …. It’s fun.
Another Windows XP Recovery Console Tip (Part 2)
I’ve covered the steps in of recovering Windows from a corrupted registry in the previous post and today I will be continuing on the next part of it.
One thing for sure, the Lsass.exe issue is a bit tedious to recover and the easiest bulk of it is to re-format the whole laptop or pc and start your installation of your programs one by one.
However the recovery console brings you a bit of hope but the process must be carry out with caution ( one slight mistake and that’s it
).
Now let’s continue where I left off.
After you have completed Part 1 , begin by opening your Windows Explorer and follow the steps below ……
- On Tools, click folder options
- Click the View tab
- Under Hidden files and folders, select Show hidden files and folders
- Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (Recomended) check box
- Click Yes to confirm
- Proceed to the drive where you store your Winidows XP ( in this case C:\System Volume Information\_restore{certain numbers based on individual machines}\RP1\Snapshot}
- Copy the following files to your C:\Windows\Tmp folder
- _Registry_User_.Default
- _Registry_Machine_Security
- _Registry_Machine_Software
- _Registry_Machine_System
- _Registry_Machine_Sam
- In your C:\Windows\Tmp folder as follows
- _Registry_User_.Default TO DEFAULT
- _Registry_Machine_Security To SECURITY
- _Registry_Machine_Software TO SOFTWARE
- _Registry_Machine_System TO SYSTEM
- _Registry_Machine_Sam TO SAM
This will set a new restore point on your machine and you will recover them from the windows folder.
That’s the end of Part 2 of this series … Part 3 will be out next.
Another Windows XP Recovery Console Tip (Part 1)
Not too long ago, I’ve covered a post on using recovery console to repair your Win XP boot menus.
Note :- That post applied to the normal boot issues where the Windows Loading screen keeps on loading .. and loading …. and ….loading …. and …..loading ….
What I’ve encountered recently is far more challenging than that …
I’m able to pass through the loading menu but upon entering Windows, I was prompted “System error : Lsass.exe”. The system restarted upon me pressing the “OK” button ….. and it repeated itself ever since.
What do I do?
One thing I’ve discovered using the automatically repair for Windows XP function from the CD would not solved this problem, so I have to turn to a more backward approach : The Recovery Console again
.
