Open Office Release 3.0

The alternative office suite for PCs (laptops included), OpenOffice.org, has now released version 3.0 of its office suite.

There are many new features in this new suite and for the first time ever ” a PDF importer”.

Which means you can import you pdf files …. edit them up and save as a document, spreadsheet, presentation or draw file (something Microsoft haven’t come out with :) ).

Though Microsoft has been working with third party ….. Able2Extract on this function to be in the future releases of Microsoft Office suites, Sun Microsystems has leapfrog a step further with this release.

Marvel Vs Capcom On Laptop

I’ve been quite busy fixing my blog which is having some plugin incompatibilities with my current wordpress (which is version 2.6.2) and I was thinking …… why not take a break for a while.

As I am doing some house cleaning (at that same time :P …. man I’m busy) , I stumbled across one of my favourite games which I’ve kept in my cupboard for quite a long time.

The game …you’ve guessed it ….. it’s Marvel vs Capcom 2.

Now my Lenovo laptop is running on Windows Vista Basic and my mmind went to be a bit wacko when I tried to install it on my VIsta. Note this is a very old game and one wonders will it ever work on Windows Vista …

Guess what …installation is smoking easy ( once you run on cmpatability mode), and the game can be played as per normal.

With just a mere laptop …. you can play one of the those great old-school games that is still hot at arcade game shops everywhere.

I’ve yet to do a screencast on that from my laptop but I came across a similar video from youtube to show guys.

Marvel vs Capcom on laptop is possible and best of all all you need is a laptop, a gamepad/ joystick and the game itself.

Check out the video below and you will know what I mean.

This game is unavailable in stores now but you can get it from ebay where a lot of people are doing their trade.

Extract PDF To Word, Excel & Powerpoint

Hi there, welcome to another post from Laptop Info Today.

Anyway recently I’ve been to do some tasks lately on my laptop and that is to extract information from pdf files to an office file formats.

To make matters worse, some of the pdf files are needed to be exported in excel spreadsheet and powerpoint formats.

Whoa … this is a big challenge but nonetheless there is a solution in a software called Able2Extract.

This is NOT a freeware but it does a job for me, you never sometimes you came around request like these, especially if you are an IT Technician :) .

Alternative CQPhone For Laptops

All we know that Skype is one of the most popular (or should I say “The Popular”) VOIP software currently used by people around the world these days.

Because it is so popular, sometimes we tend to receive poor signals in term of voice chat or video chat ( I had it sometimes on my laptop when I’m talking with my friends on some blogging issues).

Anyway there’s an up and coming software that might be common to some laptops out there, and I’m not talking Skype.

Introducing CQPhone, an easy to use PC-to-PC phone, that allows voice chat, as well as video chat and text chat. In addition, you can easily exchange pictures and web links by simply dragging them onto the interface.

One thing I like about this software is that there is no registration involved, you simply install the software and it automatically assigns you a CQ phone number (how simple can that be).

It works with most firewalls out there and here’s a catcher …. you can even hook your camcoder to the software (it will detect and you’re off video chatting - how cool can that be).

It works on any Microsoft Windows operating system and guess what “It’s FREE” !

Download the software here today.

Free Anti-Virus For Your Laptops

Free and personal for home use anti-virus are a plenty on the internet.

It is too many till one will get confused on which one to choose. That happens when my working colleague ask me the very same question this morning.

I can understand freebies on a tight budget, cause even the paid one aren’t 100% secure (let me tell you that).

Anyway she told me that she’s not into the yearly subscription stuff ….. so I put out these recommendations.

This post will be targeted for users who to use “free for personal use only” anti-virus. Always remember an anti-virus is always the last line of defense (the firewall is front line).

There are a couple of anti-virus which I experimented but these are the ones that give me good protection for your laptops.

  1. Avast Home Edition
  2. AVG Free Edition
  3. Avira AntiVir Personal
  4. PC Tools ThreatFire
  5. Bit Defender Free Edition
  6. Komodo Anti-VirusTrust

Trust me I’ve experimented on all of  them. Check them out.

New Browser In Laptops By Google

There’s been a lot of hype recently regarding Google Chrome - the new browser that is set to replace the desktop.

That is what is being said on the official site.

Google launch their new browse (currently in beta stage) to the public for testing.

I, being me, will always be excited on what’s new so I decided to give it a test.

IE 8 Beta 2 Is Ready

Microsoft has launched IE8 beta 2 for users and testers to download.

Personally, it is not yet a finished or stable software and do download this with caution; whether you’re downloading to your desktop or your laptop.

There are a couple of new feature added after the IE7 release which I personally believe the features are already there in Firefox ( cause I’m a big fan of Firefox, that’s why :) ).

Here are some of the new additions to IE8 beta2.

  1. Accelerators
  2. Automatic Crash Recovery
  3. Enhanced Navigation
  4. Web Slices
  5. Improved Favorites and History Management
  6. Instant Search
  7. Increased Performance

The interface, however, is somewhat similar to IE7 (nothing much changes there).

However the new features like accelerators, web slices and automatic crash recovery will be keeping interesting to know more.

Convert Your Office 2007 Files To PDF

Hi guys and it’s been a very long while since I update anything on this blog, not to mention my other sports blog as well at Latest Magpies News. I’ve been utterly busy with schedules till I’m unable to find any time at all to do something on my blog.

To my loyal readers out there => My sincere apologies to keep you all waiting for new updates.

I’ve also recently released an online book as well, something I’ve mentioned before which is “VISTA UNPUBLISHED“.

It took quite a while to release this book and on top of that facing numerous interruption in making the site, marketing it and others…….

But one thing that is a problem when creating this book from my laptop is packaging it.
