It’ been a very …. very long time since I blog anything and it feels good to be back.

Well one thing I’ve discovered after that long absence is this device : A Portable Hard Disk Duplicator

Sometimes using software might be the easiest solution, but it can be a lengthy one and corruption of data might occur if not done properly.

Aleratec came up this solution and its very useful if you got lots of things to backup in a short time.

Well this HDD duplicator is portable and it supports 2.5 & 3.5 inch hard disks (IDE & Sata I/II). Not only that you can also access your drives via a USB connection to your pc with RAID0, RAID1, JBOD Spanning or Normal disk configuration.

This device is compatable with Microsoft Windows 2000 or above, Mac & Linux systems.

One thing for sure that I  haven’t covered in this blog on the laptop accesories area is about laptop bags.

It is a very important accessory and without a laptop bag, how are you to carry your stronglaptop/strong around.

Anyway below is a clip by 2 lovely ladies who did a review on a couple of laptop bags …… ladies style. It is a bit different from the normal, plain, black in colour laptop bags which men tend to prefer.

Korea’s very own, LG, has leaked out pre-design laptops but has yet affirm a release date on their new environment friendly laptop dubbed the E-Book.

This concept machine has the ability to use less electricity due to change in the LCD hardware that it utilise. Unlike nomal which uses LCDs, this laptop is said to be powered by biofuel cell with organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) as its display. It even doesn’t need a frame to hold the display !

There’s also a change in the battery as it powered by natural gas, methanol, and other eco-friendly liquid fuels pack in a cylindrical hinge instead of the normal Li-Ion batteries.

Even though it has yet been released, this concept laptop has won the Red Dot Award, a German prize for industrial design, and you get a first glimpse of its usage in the next 007 : James Bond (Quantum of Solace) movie coming out very soon.

To finally end my illustrious journey to this series, the top budget laptop under $1K, is the champion of the lot.

And the winner of the most budget laptop is the HP Pavilion dv2660se .

HP has since came out with big campaigns on promoting their laptops and computing equipment and not surprising the HP is “Top Laptop Vendor Of The Year ” this year.

The HP Pavilion dv2660se multimedia laptop with excellent battery life. It’s great design and cost ($899) is one of the most appeal aspects of this laptop.

The hardware specs is not bad at all, actually for an average user is good enough already.

It comes built in with a 1.5Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (T5250) processor coupled with 2GB of RAM and an Intel Express Intergarted Graphics chipset. The weight which an equivalent to a 6-pounder has a customized made 12-cell battery which can last you for 6.3 hours. That’s a lifetime of 2.5 hours compared to an average laptop !

The cons of it is that the outlook of the laptop tend to be unsightable with the battery protuding out as in the figure on the right.

This laptop is designed for Windows Vista Home Premium users as the multimedia functions tell it all.

Extra functions include the hotkeys or Quick Play for you to access your CD/DVD without turning on your set. It is also built based on the 802.11 n - networks for faster speed connections and for the user what more do you expect for the price that’s is being displayed.

This 14.1 inch laptop is a steal and a recommended product for those going in a tight budget.

Being a former musician and songwriter, I’ve always understand that to do music recording you will need a desktop (it is my fundamental opinion, of course)

But to be on the go, one alternative is the Mac Book …… but they cost a blimey .

I was thinking back on doing a home based recording but a Windows based laptop ( well that’s some challenge).

I was surfing the internet and I could say the “Musician Friend” is indeed a musician’s friend (get what I mean) .

MusicXPC laptops are designed for musicians on the go ….. like me.

It’s hard to say at $999, i think it’s a steal.

The fun part is this … it is a Windows XP based sytem and it is tweak specifically for the music production.

Whether you’re using Cubase, Sonar, Reason, Protools, Cakewalk or others …. you will feel it is lightning speed.

Lets look more on the spec and you will definately know what I mean …..

Dell has come in with their version of the Eee version of mini laptops by releasing the Mini 9 Inspirion.

Under the $500 figure (around $349 till $499 to be exact), the Mini 9 offers users the affordability of a laptop be it a Windows XP based or Ubuntu Linux based.

Dell is one of the companies benefited by the Intel Atom Processors but unlike Asus Eee Pcs, Dell’s Mini 9 Inspirion display is only available at 8.9 inch as compared to the latter which came in in 3 sizes 7 inch, 8.9 inch and 10.2 inches display.

The specs are as of below:-

1. Intel Atom Processor N270 - 1.6Ghz
2. Motherboard 533 Mhz FSb/512K cache
3. RAM upgradable up to 1 GB
4. Solid State Disk Up to 16GB (Mini notebook version of the Hard Disk)
5. Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
6. 802.11 Wireless G
7. Base LCD Sound
8. 4 Cell (32WHr) Battery

By the way, this is laptop is actually called the Dell Mini 9 Netbook.

Apple has leaked out info on its newest product which seems to be discovered by AppleInsider.

The new product presumably called “The MAC Tablet” is a tablet pc running the Mac OSX operating system.

Softwares similarly like “iPhone-based scrolling through a contact-list” could also be built in the design of the MAC Tablet. iTunes, however, will have a better feel through finger based touch scrolls.

However Apple-type Tablet PCs has already been available in the form of third-party company Axiotron but i bet Apple will come out with great and better features; booming sales just like the iPhone.

When given this question to any laptop or notebook computer user, they will get puzzled.
This happens to me once when someone ask me about my laptop battery.

As you can see, before you replaced your laptop battery it is quite important to know a bit on the back ground first. There are several types of laptop batteries which I will share in this post.

Types of Laptop Batteries:-

1. Alkaline - This is one of the common batteries around but only few laptops used it and the flaw about alkaline batteries is that is not rechargeable. You have to throw it once it goes flat.
2. Lead Acid - One of the most commons usage for this type is for laptop computers. It is long lasting, durable and rechargeable but unfortunately it is heavy and full of lead .
3. Lithium-Ion - The type of battery you would want to have for your laptop. The fast charging effect make it good for users on the go (need not wait for a long time for the battery to get charged completely). It is also environment friendly as well.
4. Nickel-Cadium - Ni-Cd batteries is one of the oldest and best performance types of rechargeable batteries but it has a major problem. After a long usage ( a few years), the battery will suffer from the dreaded memory effect. This means that  the lifespan usage of the battery will deteriorate as time goes by.
5. Nickel- Metal Hydride - Ni-MH batteries is considered to be the successor of the Ni-Cd batteries but unfortunately the dreaded memory effect is as bad as well. However as compared between Ni-Cd and NiMH batteries, the latter last longer as compared to its predecessor.
