Defragment Issues In Win98 Laptop
I received a call from a friend today and he told me he is unable to defragment his laptop.
It came to huge surpise that his laptop is still running Windows 98SE operating system!
WHOA !!!!!
To backtrack to today, it is an operating system most considered extinct and definately want to forget. It’s been 10 years since its release and within that 10 years cycle we have seen Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista came into existence.
The answer to why people are still using Windows 98SE …… is somewhat a mystery but anyway because it was a friend of mine so I decided to help out.
If you encounter your Windows 98SE laptop having problems with Disk Defragmentation and having an error that says “Defrag004” then you would have to perform a scan disk first before proceeding.
For those who are very familiar with MS-Dos command prompt, type scandisk /all/Autofix .
Then proceed the defragmentation as per normal. The defragmentation process should run as it is.
Relieve Your Stress From Your Laptop
I am currently busy preparing for my exams which is coming this Thursday and to tell you frankly the weekends was full of stress for me.
Anyway apart of me putting too much last minute info to my brain, I also discovered a theraputic method to letting go of all of these unnecessary tensions.
I was taking some break of my revisions yesterday and do some surfing of my laptop.
I was finding solutions on how to relax my brain in circumstances like these till I stumbled upon the Brain Sync website.
What is Brain Sync?
Will 2 Anti-Virus Makes My Laptop Safer?
The answer to the question above is definately no.
But can you install 2 antivirus on one laptop. A definate “YES” except some antivirus from Norton & McAfee.
This question normally poped out by overally corncerned laptop users and I’m not very surprised by these questions as privacy and security are the main agendas in these questions to be made.
One thing for sure ….. you do not and need not install 2 or more antivirus in your laptop.
But ….
WinRAR Is Never Free
In the digital downloading world of the internet, there are quite a number of files that we download and one of the most popular files types are in .rar formats..jpg)
Contarary to this, the .zip file formats is also popular but you can still able to extract this file from your laptop from your in-built Windows file extraction wizard (that is provided you are using Windows XP or above). You need not install WinZip (a third party software) and mind you that WinZip is neither FREE either.
WinRAR on the the other hand is not FREE ($29 for one user license) but if you’ve download a .rar file format ….. what can you do?
I received a call yesterday for a friend who is having this problem while using his laptop. Immediately, I recommend him to install 7-Zip, an open-source compression tool that is able to extract a .RAR file format.
There are numerous file compression tool out there and you have to be certain which is the one that suits you.
The 3 most popular FREE file compression softwares to date are Zip Genius, IZArc and 7-Zip. Unfortunately Zip Genius does not support .RAR file formats. Unlike the free ones mentioned, none of them is able to create a .RAR file and the only that you can do it is via WinRAR
.
Take Care Of Your Eyes Laptop Users
Like many, I wear a pair of glasses most of the time especially when I’m using my trusty old laptop.
With that in mind, it is important for me to take care of my eyes while using the laptop or any computer for that matter as the LCD screens from our laptop emit UV (ultra-violet) and HEV (high energy violet) rays which can harm my eyes even further.
Recently I went to a nearby optical store to get my eyes checked and to my surprise it went 50 degress higher. Like most I do my shopping online and I stumbled upon a site called Zenni Optical. It is a one stop site which has a variety choice of eyeglasses and frames for those people who need glasses like you and me.
Best of all you need not spend a huge sum of money to get the design you want. The cost efficent factor coupled with great eye lenses and good protection for my eyes is more than enough to convince me to make my purchase.
In fact Zenni Optical is also featured in the recent news article in the NY Times. The article has mentioned Zenni Optical’s low cost frames and how you can see with a clear vision without having a big hole in your pocket.
Check out Zenni Optical eyeglasses and always take care of your eyes especially if you are spending long hours on your laptop.
Clear Up Google Chrome
As you know Google Chrome has been around for a while and to tell you frankly it is one of my favorite browsers on my laptop to date.![]()
There are a couple like Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, Opera and many others but what I really like about Google Chrome is the speed.
However there are certain features in Google Chrome that is not up to my preference like the menu and clearing of private data.
Although there is a button from settings icon that says “Clear browsing data”, it does not actually cleared all the data cleanly …. hmmm …..

Portable Apps - The Way To Go?
There’s been such a buzz recently on portable applications, if you might have noticed.
Well …… let’s first define portable applications or portable apps in short.![]()
Portable apps allows you to run your favourites programs (program files) by merely using a thumbdrive or flash drive.
Which means, if you’re a designer and need to finish up your work by using other computer which does not have that particular program file such as Adobe Falsh Professional for example, you can have that program file in your thumbdrive and still have that particular application working in any computer.
There are some pros and cons regarding this however
